Former Canadian Football League QB Sentenced To 12 Years In Jail

Former CFL quarterback Cody Ledbetter has been sentenced in the United States to 12 years in prison for fleeing to Canada in 2009 while under a court-ordered probation.

The former Hamilton Tiger-Cat pleaded guilty in 2005 to two counts of having an improper relationship with a 16-year-old girl from the high school in Alvarado, Texas, where he was a coach. He was put on probation for 10 years.

Ledbetter, 37, who left the CFL in 2002, broke the probation and fled to Ottawa in September 2009. He was in hiding until he was arrested by Canadian authorities after a July 31, 2010, altercation with his girlfriend in Ottawa.

Prosecutors in Ottawa stayed four charges against Ledbetter to allow for his deportation back to the United States.

A Texas judge handed down the 12-year sentence during a hearing in Tarrant County on Wednesday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram
