Former Canadian Football League star passes away

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today at Beulahland Baptist Church for Macon native and former Canadian Football League standout Harold Hallman, who died Friday.
Hallman was a defensive lineman for the Calgary Stampeders and Toronto Argonauts after a collegiate career at Auburn where he finished second on the team in tackles as a junior in 1984. He was drafted in the 10th round of the 1986 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, but opted for the CFL where he was an instant hit.
The 5-foot-11, 235-pounder was the CFL's most outstanding rookie in 1986 after recording 19 sacks for the Stampeders. The total remains the club record for a single season. Hallman also is tied for the Stampeders' record for most sacks in a game with four and stands fifth on the career list with 38.
He moved to Toronto in 1989 and played there through the 1993 season. Hallman ranks second on the Argonauts career sack list with 44. His 15 sacks in '89 are tied for fourth in club history for a single season.
Hallman was a three-year letterman at Auburn, who won the Southeastern Conference championship in 1983 when it finished the season 11-1 and ranked third in the nation after defeating Michigan 9-7 in the Sugar Bowl.
His tackle assist total of 74 in the '84 season still ranks seventh on the school's list for a single season. Hallman had 130 total tackles - 56 solo - that season to finish second on the team behind Ben Thomas.
