Toronto, Ontario – The Canadian Football League announced today that the 2005 pre-season schedule will include an early stop in Atlantic Canada. The 2004 Grey Cup Champion Toronto Argonauts will be the home team in the game to be played on Saturday, June 11, 2005.
In making the announcement, Commissioner Tom Wright underscored the importance of Atlantic Canada: “This region is a key market for our League. The vitality of Atlantic Canada as a growing economic centre and the overwhelming strength of the region in its support of amateur football make it a natural home for this event.”
Toronto Argonauts President and CEO Keith Pelley, fresh from the Grey Cup victory in Ottawa, reinforced the Commissioner’s perspective adding: “The Argonauts are delighted to be the home team for this very special game. Rewarding and supporting our growing fan base in Atlantic Canada is an objective that is shared League-wide.”
Discussions are underway with select cities to determine the host site. An announcement on this and the visiting team will be issued shortly.
